Peter comes to Ashley Plantation from Owl’s Nest Golf
Club in central New Hampshire where he has been the First Assistant
since 2000. Owl’s Nest Golf Club is an up-scale semi-private
golf facility that is located in the White Mountains. The club
also includes a residential development – Just like Ashley
Plantation, it opened for play in 1999.
Peter was introduced
to golf at age 13 when he started out as a caddy at the North
Conway, New Hampshire Country
Club. He quickly became hooked on the game and began working
on the maintenance crew – remaining there in the summers
through college.
Peter
attended Plymouth State University where he obtained a Bachelor
of Science degree in Physical Education. His college golf aspirations
were derailed when the University was forced to eliminate the
golf team from its athletic program.
To
this day Peter remains close and in fact still plays competitively
with his college golf coach Joe Clark, Sr. a PGA Master Professional
(the highest level of membership attainable within the PGA).
Peter considers Joe Clark his mentor in professional golf and
has learned much from Joe’s 40 years of experience in
teaching golf.
After
college, Peter decided to pursue a different path in life, and
became a police officer. He eventually obtained the rank of
Lieutenant where he was in charge of a division that was responsible
for such tasks as investigations, prosecutions and communications.
Peter
did however always know that he would pursue his ambition of
becoming a golf professional. After obtaining his position at
Owl’s Nest, Peter began working towards obtaining membership
in the PGA of America and ultimately became a class A member
of the PGA.
Peter’s
most enjoyable part of being a golf professional has been the
personal interaction with the members at his club. He especially
enjoys playing with members both casually and in Pro-AM events.
Peter’s
instructional theory relates to ball flight and helping players
understand cause and effect in their golf swings. Peter’s
students have characterized him as having a friendly and patient
teaching style.
Peter
and his wife Sandra are eagerly looking forward to their relocation
in Virginia, and Peter is very much looking forward to working
with Chip Sullivan and meeting the members at Ashley Plantation.
